Urban Mushroom Farm launches Kickstarter Campaign
Imagine being able to go on a mushroom hunt in the middle of a city! Sublicious Farms makes it possible. Sublicious Farms is a group of farmers and their families committed to providing a sustainable organic farming platform for like-minded farmers throughout the world. Since 2011, it has been an urban farm, growing gourmet mushrooms like Blue, Yellow and Pink Oyster Mushrooms inside a 9,000 square foot warehouse in Oakland Park, Florida. –Florida? Yes! While traditionally local farming has been limited by local weather patterns and growing mediums, founder and CEO Scott Lyons has overcome these limitations by utilizing technology, innovative processes and proprietary growing mediums
Using a growing substrate that took him years to bring to perfection and shipping containers as fruiting chambers, with optimized conditions for growing mushrooms, he has been supplying local restaurants and individuals for the past 5 years. Now it is time for the next step: Franchise! Intending to bring local organic mushrooms to every county, state and ultimately to export to other countries, Sublicious Farms is now building their first distribution center! They are leasing a 1 acre plot on a horse farm in Delray Beach. This has three advantages: Access to huge amounts of horse manure (a main ingredient in the mushroom grow medium), access to heavy machinery, which will speed up production, and a lot of space to add more shipping containers as fruiting chambers. Why shipping containers? They are insulated, air-conditioned and mobile! This makes it easier to set up franchises all over the country; sell ready optimized shipping containers, let a truck deliver them to their new location and supply them with everything they need to grow mushrooms.
At the moment, Sublicious Farms is in the process of setting up shop at their new distribution center in Delray Beach. In order to speed up the process, they have set up a Kickstarter!
